  15. <p>     SENTENCED. LARRY NEVERS, 53, and WALTER BUDZYN, 47, white former
  16. police officers; for their second-degree murder convictions
  17. in the beating death of black motorist Malice Green; in Detroit.
  18. Green died of injuries from hammer-like blows delivered by heavy
  19. metal flashlights. The two officers apologized to Green's family
  20. before Judge George Crockett handed down their punishments--12 to 25 years in prison for Nevers, who cannot be paroled before
  21. he has served at least nine years and eight months; and eight
  22. to 18 years for Budzyn, or a minimum of 6 1/2 years. The officers
  23. requested that they be imprisoned out of state to avoid cellblock
  24. encounters with inmates they sent to prison in the course of
  25. their police work.
